Luxury vinyl plank has taken over for good reasons. It is waterproof, so it goes where solid hardwood cannot — kitchens, bathrooms, basements, laundry rooms. It handles dogs, kids and dragged furniture. And it goes down over a concrete slab without the moisture headache that ruins wood.
The subfloor is the whole job. LVP is thin and it floats, which means it telegraphs whatever is underneath it. A dip you cannot see by eye becomes a soft spot you feel every time you walk over it, and a click-lock seam sitting over a hollow will eventually separate. Most of the failed LVP we get called to look at was fitted over a floor nobody bothered to flatten.
So that is where we start. We check the substrate for level and flatness, fill and grind where it needs it, fix squeaks and soft spots while the floor is up, and test slabs for moisture before anything goes over them.
Then it goes in properly: correct underlayment, expansion gap left at every wall so summer humidity has somewhere to go, planks racked so the seams do not line up in a pattern, and real transition strips at doorways rather than a smear of trim.
You get a written itemized price before we start, the site swept at the end of every day, and a floor that is still flat in five years.
